The Colosseum, known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is the main symbol of Rome with its 2.000 years of history. During the Roman Empire, the Colosseum allowed people to enjoy its highest exhibition of exotic animals, executions of prisoners and gladiators fights, with an estimated 50.000 to 80.000 spectators. Beneath it, there is a network of subterranean passageway used to transport wild animals and gladiators into the arena. However, since the 6th century, the Colosseum has dealt with lootings, earthquakes and even bombings during the World War Two. Now, with millions of tourists ever year, the Colosseum is Rome's greatest attraction, and on 7 July 2007, it became one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.
